BIGGEST DISPLAY FOR 2012
BT has today unveiled Britains largest LED array to celebrate 1,000 days to go until the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The communications firm has wrapped the top of its BT Tower with a 360-degree LED display around the 36th and 37th floors, which measures 280 sq m and includes 177,000 pixels.
It is the biggest billboard in Europe and the US contains 529,750 LEDs and will be officially switched on tomorrow (October 31st) evening during the National Lottery programme.
Once the display is switched on, BT claims that the message is so bright that it will be visible from the moon.
Dubbed the Information Band, the installation of the billboard required 2,700 trips to the top of the tower, which is located 167 metres above street level.
Last month, Richard Wilson, editor of Electronics Weekly, named Crees LRP-38 LED and Osram Parathom Classic LED as the best lighting devices on the market.
